Chevrolet Corvette C5-R ~ 2001 ~ AUTOart
In 2001, Corvette Racing took yet again the challenge of Daytona 24h. The year before they came so close of winning the race so in '01, with an improved car, they had big hopes for the upcoming season. Corvette's main rivals were the Porsche's and Vipers. Following the qualy sessions Corvette's were starting from 2nd and 3rd in their class being out-qualified only by a 911 GT1. As the race got underway rain started to fall. This was good for CR, as their GoodYear rain and intermediant tires were good in damp conditions. In the end, overcoming techincal failures and the bad wether, the #2 Corvette of O'Connel/Freon/Kneifel/Fellows won the 24h running at Daytona overall with the team-mate #3 finishing on 2nd in GT class and 4th overall.
AA's model depicts in the winning car in it's distinguishing yellow. The model was released in 2003 and now is not in production anymore, still you can find it at decent prices (I've got mine for 90$ transport fees included). This particular version is one of the few to feature side windows. Also the rear compertiment is very well detailed in contrast with the poor detail on the later version (after 2002). The interior is well detailed but not extrodinary as well as the engine bay. The BBS LM rims look outstanding and they have disc brakes with callipers.
Overall, the model shows what AUTOart was able to do some 6 years ago but without distroying your whole budget in the process. I definitely recommend this model for racing lovers or Vette collectors.
